● This is an example of kinetic fabric that can give us a small window to look into the future. The importance of technology to fashion industry and how scientists can help the image of fashion today becoming more useful to our everyday life. Hussein Chalayan knew better.
I did research the materials mr. Chalayan uses in his collections and it was a big surprise to me. A material called SMA (Shape Memory Alloys), is an alloy that 'remembers' its original shape and can be modified by heating. It's lightweight, resist to very high and very low temperatures -30℃ to +70℃ and it has applications in industries from medicine to robotics and aerospace. The most interesting property of SMA is the two-way shape-memory effect. This means the material can remember 2 different shapes: one at the low temp, and one at the high temp shape.
Here you can see is how it works.
In other words, it doesn't need tailoring!
